Pat Roberts served as a U.S. Senator from Kansas from January 3, 1997, to January 3, 2021. Before his Senate tenure, Roberts represented Kansas in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 to 1997. Known for his expertise in agriculture policy, Roberts chaired both the House and Senate Agriculture Committees, the only member of Congress to hold this distinction. A graduate of Kansas State University, he also served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958 to 1962. Roberts was recognized for his leadership in agricultural reform and rural policy during his congressional career.
