Charles Ernest Grassley is the senior U.S. Senator from Iowa, having served in the Senate since 1981. He is the longest-serving Republican in Congressional history and the sixth-longest-serving U.S. senator overall. Grassley has chaired several important Senate committees, including the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Judiciary Committee. Prior to his time in the Senate, he served eight terms in the Iowa House of Representatives and three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.
