Jim Carlin served as a member of the Iowa State Senate representing District 3 from December 21, 2017, to January 2, 2023. Previously, he served in the Iowa House of Representatives for District 6. Carlin ran for the U.S. Senate from Iowa in 2022 but lost in the Republican primary on June 7, 2022. He held leadership roles in various Senate committees, including chairing the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee.
