Patrick Joseph Leahy was a U.S. Senator from Vermont, serving from January 3, 1975, to January 3, 2023. He was a member of the Democratic Party and served as the President pro tempore of the U.S. Senate from 2012 to 2015 and again from 2021 to 2023. Leahy also had a distinguished legal career and was known for his work in defense of civil rights and liberties. He was born in Montpelier, Vermont, and married Marcelle Pomerleau in 1962. He has three children: Alicia Jackson, Mark Leahy, and Kevin Leahy.
