Pamela Pugh, born in Newton, Mississippi, is a scientist and public health advisor serving as an at-large member of the Michigan State Board of Education since 2015. Her current term extends until January 1, 2031. Pugh earned her bachelor's degree from Florida A&M University in 1996 and her Ph.D. in Public Health from the University of Michigan in 2014. She has been a vocal advocate for health equity, environmental justice, and education reform. Pugh has held leadership roles with organizations such as the NAACP and the Michigan Environmental Council. She ran for both the U.S. House and Senate in 2024 but did not advance in the Democratic primaries.
