Ted Brown was born in 1960 in Steubenville, Ohio, to a family of German, Greek, and Jewish immigrants. He moved to Wheeling, West Virginia, where he worked in the family furniture business through high school. After attending Wesleyan University for one year, he relocated to Los Angeles and later graduated from UCLA in 1984 with a B.A. in political science, focusing on Constitutional Law. Ted has worked in the insurance industry as an independent insurance adjuster, specializing in auto, property, and liability cases. A lifelong Libertarian, Ted joined the Libertarian Party in 1979 and has held numerous leadership roles, including Chairman of the Libertarian Party of California and the Libertarian Party of Travis County. He resides in Austin, Texas, with his wife Laura, who teaches at Austin Community College, and their daughter Katie, who works in fundraising for a major university hospital.
