Born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Raul Garcia escaped Castro’s communist regime with his mother at age 11, immigrating to Spain before obtaining political asylum in the United States. Settling in Miami, Florida, he pursued higher education, earning a degree in Microbiology/Immunology from the University of Miami and a medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. With a 26-year career as an Emergency Room doctor, Dr. Garcia has held leadership roles as a hospital Medical Director, a founding Dean of two medical schools, and a successful small business owner. He also founded 'Opportunity for Washington,' a nonpartisan nonprofit promoting education and community engagement. Dr. Garcia is dedicated to service and resides in Washington with his wife, Jessica, and their five children.
